Ha Long Bay

We did a boat cruise immediately after returning from Ha Giang, so we were a quite tired. We went with the 'Social One'. It felt like it couldn't decide if it was trying to be luxurious or a party boat. Depending on your style, go for Party or Luxury - but luxury is probably better and doesn;t cost too much more. We would also suggest doing Ha Long Bay before Ha Giang, and take a day to relax in Hanoi in between.

The weather does have a big impact on the experience, and unfortunately ours was made slightly more mediocre by the poor weather.

We travelled with someone that was a rep in Ha Long Bay 7 years prior, and it seems to have changed a lot since then.

Ha Giang 'The Loop'

We would hugely recommend doing the Ha Giang Loop. Beautiful scenery on a 3 or 4 day motorbike tour (self driven or passenger), with all food, drink and accommodation included. The evening entertainment is so much fun! This was definitely a highlight of our entire trip!

The weather does have a huge impact on the experience, and make sure to take warm clothes with you.

We would recommend the tour with hagianghostel.com. We did the 4D3N which included travel to and from Hanoi. All tours look good but we were told to avoid Jasmine Tour, unless you're a 19 year old backpacker and don't mind groups of 100 people.

Our tour was perfect. About 20 people, around 25-30 year olds, with a boozy backpacker vibe.

Accommodation was adequate, but this is definitely not a luxurious tour.

If not doing the loop, visiting Ha Giang wouldn't be high on our list.

Journey through Vietnam

πŸ‡»πŸ‡³

We flew in to Hanoi and spent a few days here. Then we took the bus to Ha Giang for a 4 day organised tour before returning to Hanoi. We then spent 2 days in Ha Long Bay before going back to Hanoi and catching a train to Hoi An. We were in Hoi An for Christmas before moving to Phong Nha for a quick stop. Then we travelled to Ho Chi Minh, before spending NYE in Phu Quoc. We flew back to Ho Chi Minh before moving to our next location.

We didn't go to Da Nang or Hue, but we heard good things about them.
